"Petite" Modeling

By all definitions I am a petite model. I am about 5'3 inches tall. But in the modeling world that 3 inches can go up by one or two more. Sometimes I say I am up to 5'5 only if I believe it is do able with shoes and hair. None the less, if you are under 5'7 you are considered a petite model by most industries. Now what does that mean? On paper it makes it seem like becoming a model is nearly impossible. Most modeling agencies do not have a petite division and if they do it is very limited. Granted, there are some agencies that offer Commercial Modeling divisions that do not have a height requirement. Those agencies are fair game for models of all sizes. I remember when I started modeling I asked my model and photographer friends how I should get more involved. I had done one shoot with a friend and was curious as to how to get more photographers to notice me on social media. The first thing I was told was that they did not know of many petite modeling opportunities in th...

Mental and Physical Health Story

We're all a little messed up.  Though I will say I have met many people who do not seem to understand mental disorders. They're scared of them. There is not enough people that speak up about the horrors that they deal with in their everyday life. I'm inclined to believe we all have them. The most dangerous thing we can do is hide them. I've spent the last year of my life struggling to be more vocal about how I truly feel. But if I can't do it than my preaching means absolutely nothing. So, sit back, buckle up, and allow me take you on this journey I'm on. It's taken me years to understand the full effect of my mental disorders. I've always been an anxious kid. My mom would round a corner and I would cry thinking she had left me. This would carry on into my adult life but in different forms. I feel extreme separation anxiety when I am displaced from my environment, friends, and family. I have seen this cause problems in my traveling and busy life style....

MODEL MUA

Back in high school I was a makeup fiend. I would scour Youtube for tutorials and makeup haul videos. I would then work and spend all my money at Ulta. Makeup was a very important form of self expression for me. Especially when I attended private school. Now days I have found many different ways of self expression. Also, I do not have as much free spending money as I did back then. This made my makeup journey take some sort of a hit. I stopped buying makeup and started rationing what I did have. To this day I often do not make big makeup purchases very frequently. I have found a very different way to use and wear makeup that works for me in my regular life and my modeling experiences as well. The biggest battle in makeup always seems to be drug store or high end. Which looks better for the price point. I do not know about you. But I hate spending a lot of money on one item. So if I did spend bigger money on makeup it usually was always a palette. For example, my favorite key palett...

Traveling Bug

For most people the idea of traveling is the very thing that gets them through school, work, or life. Knowing that eventually all that work will be spent exploring and living in a place you never have before is extremely exciting to a large number of people. Well, the idea sounded great to me. As someone who has never grown up traveling I liked the idea of going to new places. Even places that were just in the US. I did a little bit of traveling when I was in high school. But it was always a short school trip and usually I had a family member with me. The times I do remember traveling were always fun and I never remember having any issues. Fast forward to this last week. I had this Colorado trip planned for awhile. There were about a thousand reasons why I wanted to go to Colorado. Needless to say I was very excited. Except, the morning I woke up to board the plane I got sick. I woke up early and started vomiting profusely. If you know me at all, you know that vomiting is unfortunat...

MODELING 101

Welcome to your first class in Modeling 101.  In this blog post I want to explore topics related to how to start modeling. While also being able to give some advice for new and upcoming models in the industry. Modeling is becoming more attainable than ever before and I really believe that. When people around me find out I model they often come to me with a lot of questions that tell me just how much the industry is stereotyped. Some of these include, "Oh I wish I could model but I am 5+  pounds overweight" or "I do not look like a model." Sometimes these statements confuse me. Like what do you mean you don't look like a model? What does a model look like? Because I know certainly that by all traditional standards I don't necessarily look like a model either. Now what makes me a model is my massive portfolio or continuous hard work in the industry and on social media. But then doesn't that mean that anyone could model? Well, yeah basically. So my first...

My Confidence Journey

It is funny for me to think that there was a time when I was not so confident in my skin. To a point, I believe everyone is a little insecure no matter how confident they claim to be. Throughout my middle school and high school years I got enough attention to have confidence and sometimes I felt like I was. But for the most part I only felt confident less than half the time. I did not like how most clothes looked on me. I felt at a loss for my own personal style which made shopping for clothes that did look good much harder. I often felt in between styles and could not find looks that fit me. Not to mention, I had a baby face which would be great down the line but not at the time. It made me look years younger so it was hard to pass as a high schooler. I never looked my age in social settings. That felt damaging to my image in high school. Additionally, I never liked to go out without a little bit of makeup. Just so people would not say anything about my age or how young I looked. Of c...

Professionally Creepy

Good morning!! I woke up today trying to think of all the topics I had been mulling over the last few days. I kept coming up blank with the exception of this one idea. Perhaps my most underdeveloped so far but we will just go with it. Creepy photographers are more relevant than I would like to give thought to. Usually its a male photographer and usually there are multiple red flags beforehand. I have always been cautious and tried to follow my gut feeling about shoots. Which has resulted in a handful of photographers getting confronted and even canceled on by me. But it can be hard to draw the line when trying to be professional. I wanted to lay out as many red flags as I can possibly think of in this post. In addition I wanted to be able to give some advice for how to handle the situation in case you're actually in it. RED FLAGS: 1) The first one I can think of is if they are brief or vague when explaining what they are looking for in the photoshoot. Some photographers like...
